The CFS is committed to increasing on campus sustainability through green infrastructure. A new headquarters for the CFS, Timber processing Innovation
Center and University Business Linkage Cell is currently under construction, utilising unique design features and solar technology to reduce its carbon footprint. The building will serve as the hub for sustainability projects across campus and provide a productive, comfortable, space for academic and support staff.
Key features of the building include large glass windows in the walls and ceiling that will allow natural light to supplement the need for continuous electric lighting.
Roof top and upper wall ventilation louvres will provide outside airflow to cool the building, reducing electricity consumption from air conditioning. Green walls and exterior planting to enhance aesthetics and increase carbon sequestration. Finally,a roof top solar system will generate cleaner electricity for use by the department.
